360X Defensive Hands is based on the context of violent criminal assault and not the sports associated with martial arts. The foundation since 1972 has been the context of 360X Defense's four pillars:
- Legal definitions of crime and self-defense law.
- Criminal behaviors
- Crime statistics: What one can glean from statistics on which ones actions supports defensive strategies.
- Crime case study: What defensive measures succeed or fail in actual crimes.
Firearms are also taught at 360X Defense Institute, play a significant role in personal defense, and are categorized under their descriptive headings.
360X Defensive Hands are not limited to the empty hands of Karate (kara=empty and te=hand). Still, they include bare hands in hand to hand defense and defensive tools such as the legal pocket knife, car keys, tactical pen, cellphone, walking cane, flashlight, pepper spray, TASER, and any improvised objects such as a lamp, rolled-up magazine, salt or pepper shaker, shoe or belt.
